Abstract
In order to develop a good tool for monitoring health and quality of life of the Korean elderly, the longitudinal study on the physical changes and age-related disease proneness has been initiated. The center of the study is the APCRI of Seoul National University, collaborating with Health Promotion Centre of Seoul National University Hospital. The study includes physical check, biochemical analysis of serum, anthropometric survey, special analysis for muscle power and bone density, skin analysis and cancer marker analysis, etc. And all the sample of blood, urine, isolated DNA have been aliquoted and preserved for the further analysis. All the data are collected and computerized for the organic collaborative researches. The study has invited 250 cohorts until now and will extend to 600 cohorts in short period. Cohorts are recommended to join the study basically every other year. From these studies, we expect that the longitudinal changes of the Koreans will be clarified, which might contribute to the development of several strategies related with supporting program for the elderly in KOREA.
